Our fasting quote of encouragement today is from Gary Cordon. He said: “Fasting is a physical and spiritual discipline that humbles you in God’s sight, letting Him know that you are willing to deny your physical appetites for spiritual ‘manna’ that satisfies the spirit and soul!”
Our fasting devotional today is titled “HOW TO FINISH YOUR FAST IN A HEALTHY WAY” (PART 1) from Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ.
All the experts agree that “breaking the fast” is the critical phase of fasting. While your body is in the resting mode, your stomach shrinks and your intestines become idle, so solid food must be re-introduced very slowly to avoid kidney failure or digestive distress. In fact, after a 40-day fast, you should make a careful transition for at least three days before returning to eating meats or fats or normal foods.
Now, let’s take this time to break up the fallow ground in our lives. Hosea 10:12 states, “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.”
Today we are going to deal with the 96th sin of Immodest Dress 1 Timothy 2:9-10 reads “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.” Modest dress for women is not just for the church environment, but women should dress modestly in all settings at all times. Modesty begins with the heart. If you have a heart for God, you will make sure that you dress in a way that glorifies God. If you do not have a heart for God, you will choose to dress in a way that draws attention to yourself. Too often, women in the church dress to attract a man instead of to glorify God. As a Christian woman, you should make sure that you have a heart of modesty so that you do not cause your Christian brothers to stumble and lust because of your provocative and revealing dress. Do you have a heart for modesty? Does your dress reflect your Christian testimony? Modesty in dress should be the desire of all women who want to live to honor God in all things.
