Our fasting quote of encouragement today is from Alex Gee. He said: “Fasting is not about changing God. It is not a mystical exercise to gain God’s approval. Fasting is not about changing my world, but about letting God realign my heart toward his purposes.”
Our fasting devotional today is titled “FIVE STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL DANIEL FAST” (PART 1) from Susan Gregory, author of the bestselling book “The Daniel Fast”.
I have been blessed through the Daniel Fast ministry to communicate with thousands of people throughout the world. For many, I guide them into their first fasting experience. For others, I share in their upcoming or current fast. Through this, I have been able to identify five specific steps each person can take toward a rewarding fast. Those steps are: Pray, Plan, Prepare, Participate, and Praise and Process.
Today, we will deal with the first step: Pray
From the very beginning, include God in your fast. Open yourself up to Him and talk to Him about your intentions. Submit the fast and yourself to Him. If you are not accustomed to this type of interaction and intimacy with the Lord, that’s okay. He understands. But keep moving forward, even though you might feel awkward. Remember, He knows what you need before you tell Him.
The Psalmist writes in Psalm 139:1-6, “O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.”
Your Father loves you and wants you to be comfortable in His presence. Sometimes we need to learn how to hear His voice and feel His presence, and this is a perfect time to start learning and moving into this special place with your Father.
